Travel bursaries
International Conference Travel Bursaries
We offer Early-Career Travel Bursaries to support early-career researchers and early-career professionals* in presenting their work at prestigious international conferences.
Please note that, unless otherwise confirmed in writing, all travel bursary claims must be submitted within three months of the start date of the event. Claims submitted after this deadline will not be accepted, and the bursary offer will automatically lapse.
A limited number of travel bursaries are available on a competitive basis. Successful applicants may receive up to £2,000 towards eligible travel, accommodation, and subsistence expenses.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- Be based in the UK.
- Meet the BetterWater4All definition of an Early Career Researcher or Early Career Professional.
- Meet the BetterWater4All Network schemes.
- Have had an oral (platform) presentation accepted at a prestigious international conference.
Award Conditions
As a condition of the award, successful applicants are required to provide a short video clip about their conference presentation, suitable for publication on the BetterWater4All Network+ website and social media channels.

National Travel Bursaries
A number of ECR/ECP travel bursaries of up to £150 will be available each year to attend UK meetings, workshops, including the Network’s ECR/ECP events, etc.

*Definition of ECR/ECP
To be considered an Early Career Researcher, you must be an academic/postgraduate/post-doctorate in a UK institution, no more than three years’ full-time employment (or the full-time equivalent taking account of career breaks, part-time employment, etc.) at lecturer or equivalent level.
Early Career Professional includes students, recent graduates, apprentices, and those in the early stages of their professional journey (no more than XX years’ full-time employment), regardless of age.
