*Definition of Early Career Researcher (ECR) and Early Career Professional (ECP)
BetterWater4All Network+ uses a career-stage rather than age- or time-based definition of Early Career status.
Early Career Researchers (ECRs) are individuals working in academia or research who are developing their independence, establishing their research profile, and working towards leadership within their field. This may include postgraduate researchers, postdoctoral researchers, and researchers in the early stages of an independent academic career.
Early Career Professionals (ECPs) are individuals working in industry, government, the public sector, charities, or other professional settings who are at an equivalent stage of professional development and are establishing their expertise, independence, and professional profile within their field.
For funding opportunities, applicants who consider themselves to be at an early-career stage are encouraged to apply and may be asked to briefly describe how they meet this definition in relation to their career path and experience.
